Northumbria University are pleased to be working with Middlesbrough Art Week for the second year on the New Graduate Award programme.

The awards are a unique opportunity for two graduating artists to undertake a period residency period where they can reflect, take risks, create networks, receive support and mentorship followed by an exhibition of work at Middlesbrough Art Week in the autumn.

In contrast to many open submission opportunities, the application, submission and selection process for the New Graduate Awards has been developed between MAW and Northumbria to be both supportive and generative.

In this way, systems that can often be alienating are demystified and confidence is built in graduating artists to articulate and represent their individual and collective practices.
