Andrew Wilson

Artist Andrew Wilson alternates between solo and collaborative projects to create playful reactionaries on complex issues plaguing society. Often working with Toby Lloyd as the powerful artist duo Lloyd-Wilson, their works such as the ongoing 2016 We Are Our Media project ‘The Eclipse’ take alternative approaches to journalism. Through independent press and down to earth views on issues in the North East, they give voices to the regions vulnerable by inviting working class people to feature and expose the one-sided view large press companies hold.

Wilson is an active member of the programme committee at The Newbridge Project, Newcastle and in 2015, he and Lloyd were nominated for the Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN) artist’s film for their extensive residency work in Leeds. Other awards include Artist of the Year: Student Vote Winner, AA2A (2011), Hole Editions Artist Print Prize, Hole Editions (2008) and the Ambitious Print Award, Kent Institute of Art and Design (2004). Recent shows: ‘Do it Ourselves Journalism’ (publication launch), In-Stu, Brierfield (2021), ‘This Trust Idea’ (screening), Side Cinema, Newcastle upon Tyne (2021) and ‘Call Centre’, Allenheads Contemporary Arts, Northumberland (2020).
