Member of the Bristol artist-run collective BEEF and a Royal West of England Academician, moving image artist Katie Davis is rooted in the filmmaking art scene. Her explorative practice collaborates with groups and communities to unfold the construction and manipulation of identity. Political agendas and media discourse manipulate a person’s agency to self-identify and Davis’s video, 16mm film and moving image works present these nationally dictated identities in a storytelling format. She is interested in how the medium can reclaim places and identities and create newly imagined communities.
A senior lecturer in Media Production at the UWE, Bristol, Davis has gone on to be nominated for the Paul Hamlin Award (2016) and feature as a jury member for the international competition ‘Short Film Festival Oberhausen’ (2018). Her past shows include ‘FACT Liverpool’ (2018), ‘Kassel Dokfest’, Bratislava international film festival and Oberhausen international film festival (2017 & 2015), ‘Sarajevo Film Festival’ (2015), ‘Border Visions’, Connecticut, USA (2012) and the Istanbul Biennial (2009).
