Carolyn Thompson is a visual artist who currently lives in York. Thompson’s artwork is described as literature and place. Her work incorporates altered texts, drawings, installations, book works, textiles, experimental writing, sound works and film. Using books and archival material she appropriates or re-writes pre-existing stories to develop new narratives.

Carolyn has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally in over 60 exhibitions at institutions including Center for Book Arts, New York, MGLC International Centre for Graphic Arts, Ljubljana, and MAK Vienna. Her work can be found in several public collections. Thompson’s work ‘After Capote: When Truman met Marlon’ won the Minnesota Center for Book Arts Prize People’s Book Art Award (2020). Thompson was the recipient of a Dover Prize Creative Award (2021).
