Fischli & Weiss

Peter Fischli (b. 1952) and David Weiss (b.1946 – d. 2012) were a Swiss artist duo that collaborated beginning in 1979. Fischli & Weiss had their first solo exhibition at the Galerie Balkon in Geneva (1981). Since then have had their work shown at numerous art exhibitions including: Sonnabend Gallery in New York (1986), Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (2000); Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam (2003); Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico City (2005). Solo exhibitions were held at the Art Institute of Chicago (2011) and the Serpentine Gallery, London (2013).

Their best known film Der Lauf der Dinge (The Way Things Go, 1987) was described as being “post-apocalyptic” by The Guardian after concerns about the chain reactions. David Weiss discovered a passion for jazz at age 16, eventually enrolling onto a foundation course at the Kunstgewerbeschule, Zurich. He chose the career as an artist as a realistic prospect while rejecting the career of a decorator, graphic designer and photographer.
